Advancing Synergies Between “IRL” and “Online” Interventions for LGBTQ+ Youth

Abstract:

In this Seminar Series event, Dr. Bauermeister will highlight the theoretical and methodological importance of centering youths’ virtual and “in real life” selves, discuss the importance of creating programs that respond to their needs, and showcase the value of bridging these two realities using exemplars from several innovative life-skills programs geared to LGBTQ+ youth.


Bio:

Dr. Bauermeister is the Founding Faculty Director of the Eidos LGBTQ+ Health Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also the Albert M. Greenfield University Professor of Human Relations, Chair of the Department of Family and Community Health in the School Nursing and Professor of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Bauermeister has led several technology-assisted multilevel interventions to reduce the psychosocial vulnerabilities experienced by sexual and gender minority youth across the United States. He has pioneered the integration of youth-based participatory strategies during mHealth intervention development and testing, as well as the use of geospatial and behavioral tailoring techniques to improve the reach and impact of mHealth applications.
