Julius L. Chen

Julius L. Chen, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management, Faculty Director of Graduate Studies in Health Policy and Management, and Director of Undergraduate Studies in Public Health at Columbia University. Dr. Chen’s research utilizes the tools of empirical microeconomics to evaluate innovative strategies designed to improve the delivery and financing of medical care, studying their impact on patient health and economic outcomes. For example, his work examines the value-based care delivery and provider payment models that are being developed and tested by Medicare, state Medicaid agencies, and self-insured employers. He also teaches graduate-level courses on health care finance, provider payment systems, and managerial and organizational behavior.
