Neha Mallick

Neha Mallick is a doctoral student at the Columbia School of Social Work, with research interests centered on the gaps in inter-state and intra-state migration of low-income individuals in the informal sector. She aims to investigate disparities in the implementation of labor policies in the Global South, particularly in India, and how political and socioeconomic factors shape state capacity to implement social welfare policies for informal workers. Neha’s current research focuses on internal migration within India, the role of nativist policies, and the experiences of Black immigrants in the U.S. Prior to her doctoral studies, Neha served as a Project Manager at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), overseeing the Adolescence Education Program and worked with civil societies in areas of labor and anti-human trafficking policies alongside providing constitutional support to Members of Parliament in India. Neha holds a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Calcutta and a Master in Public Policy from the National Law School of India University.
